Birmingham knows how to hit the high notes during the long winter season. With 2019’s Christmas festivities about to take center stage, it’s time to line up even more top spots to catch the best holiday light shows. From the heart of the city out to the suburbs, Birmingham embraces the holiday spirit with neighborhood displays, parades, safari adventures, and wacky, tacky sweater tours. Here are 10 of our favorites:
1. Grand Christmas Tree Lighting
Mark your calendars for Friday, Nov 22, 2019, at 7:00 p.m., and take a short drive to catch the Grand Christmas Tree Lighting at The Outlet Shops of Grand River in Leeds, AL. The event will feature live performances, crafts, and photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus. An added bonus includes a James Spann Book Signing from 7:00 to 8:30. Pack your Subaru Forester with the whole gang for an evening of lights.
2. Homewood Christmas Parade
It’s time to get out and enjoy some holiday cheer with your neighbors beginning with the Homewood Christmas Parade on Thursday, December 5, 2019. Beginning at the Homewood Library at 6:30 p.m., the parade route ends at City Hall Plaza on 18th Street with the tree lighting. Bring your little ones to see Santa and support your local Homewood High School Band, as they’re the featured entertainment for the evening. Complete the evening with a holiday light tour of Edgewood subdivision.
3. Regions Building Christmas Lights
One of Birmingham’s perennial holiday favorites since the 1970s is the sight of the 30-story Regions Center. Like a beacon for the season, the building’s gel light tubes are carefully placed in the windows to create an illuminated masterpiece that includes a wreath, stocking, and Christmas trees. It’s a sight to behold if you’re in the neighborhood of 20th Street and 5th Avenue North.
4. The Summit Birmingham
Lights Up Holiday Parade & Fireworks Show kicks off the season at The Summit on Friday, November 22, 2019, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The free festivities include a photo booth with Santa, live entertainment, crafts, and treats. Don’t miss the magic that runs from Barnes & Noble to REI.
5. Light Show Launch Party
Operation Christmas Spirit kicks off the season by lighting up the neighborhood and filling the air with a 90.5 radio broadcast. Bring the kids and join the festivities on Friday, November 29, 2019, from 6:30 to 10:00 p.m., at 100 Brook Circle, Chelsea, Alabama.
